Summary

It is the responsibility of the Director Freight Ops III to provide department oversight and direction to maximize operational effectiveness. Plans and directs all department activities in accordance with authorized budgets and timescales. Directs the processing of complex requirements, inquiries and/or complaints, and ensure all internal and external customer requirements are met as needed. Develops and executes freight operations business strategy. Professionally interacts with customers, team members, and third-party vendor/partner representatives to provide the highest level of customer service.

This position will support our Event & Exhibit Services team. The position follows an in-person schedule working full-time in-office and/or show site based out of Washington DC.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct all freight operations and staff to ensue operational effectiveness in all business matters.

  • Direct all freight operations team members including interviewing, hiring/firing, mentoring, developing, coaching, and counseling.

  • Schedule freight operations supervisors for individual shows, and direct freight operation of all shows for the branch operations including the dock, service desk, marshalling yard, tools, and equipment regardless of show size or facility.

  • Work closely with corporate freight operations, the General Manager, and other department leaders to ensure that all freight operations requirements and problems are addressed.

  • Partner with the sales team to coordinate freight move in preparation for upcoming shows.

  • Report capital expenditures of warehouse, equipment, and personnel to Freeman General Manager.

  • Ensure Freemans policies and procedures are followed.

  • Schedule freight operations safety training in conjunction with risk management.

  • Conduct regular department meetings.

  • Approve credit memos on material handling charges.

  • Monitor the account receivable aging report and labor budgeting tool (LBT).

  • Review warehouse reweighs, pounds per man hour, and special handling percentages.

  • Oversee the operation maintenance and movement of company vehicles & equipment.

  • Monitor equipment rental budget as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma required.

  • College degree preferred.

  • 10+ years of industry related experience preferred.

  • 8+ years of personnel, budgetary, and operational management experience preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience managing supervisory roles.

  • Experience and understanding of all material handling rates and show rules & regulations.

  • Specific experience with computer systems and web-based systems. Strong knowledge and practical experience with Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Must pass an MVR screen.
