Summary

It is the responsibility of the Supervisor Warehouse Freight to supervise the freight warehouse staff though management of labor, equipment, job assignments, hours of operation, paperwork, timekeeping, DOT compliance and overall job cost. Supervises team members on the care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, shipping stock, and handling other related duties. Professionally interacts with customers, team members, and third-party vendor/partner representatives to provide the highest level of service excellence.

This position will support our Event & Exhibit Services team. The position follows an in-person schedule working full-time in-office and/or show site based out of Washington DC.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise team members on the care and preservation of items received, stored, and shipped; methods and use of equipment in handling, storing, shipping stock and other related problems.

  • Provides clear direction and oversight on the proper loading of all vehicles in alignment with standard procedures and protocols.

  • Create procedures and policies in accordance with standardized guidelines and business processes, for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness. Issue written and oral instructions to team members on pertinent operating & safety issues and direction.

  • Determine which vehicles are to be loaded and procures an adequate number of trucks and trailers during peak periods.

  • Ensure the delivery of all trucks, equipment, trailers, freight trailers, and forklifts to the designated show site through:

  • Determining the appropriate number of trucks needed daily,

  • Renting appropriate number of trucks if needed.

  • Utilizing drivers from the union hall and/or other sources as needed.

  • Obtaining the appropriate number of forklifts from a rental source as needed.

  • Ensure applicable paperwork procedures are followed for all shipping/receiving.

  • Ensure job cost is kept to a minimum without sacrificing services to all customers.

  • Interacts with customers regarding freight damages and other issues.

  • Ensure fleet is maintained following procedures for maintenance and preventative maintenance in accordance with DOT regulations.

  • Ensure fleet is compliant with proper tags, titles, permits, etc. for DOT compliance.

  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure fleet and Driver Qualification Files are DOT compliant.

  • Maintain all fleet record keeping (manual and electronic) for DOT compliance.

  • Maintain all fuel records for IFTA compliance.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required. College Degree preferred.

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge and experience preferred.

  • 2+ years of industry related experience preferred.

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in a related field preferred.

  • Ability to perform basic computer function in Freeman programs. Experience and versed in programs such as, Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • JJ Keller (Data Sense/Encompass) software preferred but not required
